So it's week two of his year long project and already there's so much drama going around that it's practically malleable. Apparently there are some huge layoffs coming to PLLC and it's got everyone nervous - to the point that many people are already packing there more fragile desk decorations and taking them home. It's a little frightening knowing that despite the number of years of hard work and dedication there is still the chance that you will be laid off. :( A long time ago there once was a boy named Andrew who thought corporate life would be this wonderful magical blessing. He died. Or grew up, I can't decide which is the more appropriate analogy... On the plus side, the project is going well, but a lot longer than I anticipated. The initial action item I was given is to collate data from three different spreadsheets and put them into an easy to read spreadsheet. Simple in nature but exceedingly tedious in execution. I definitely enjoy the perks of working on this project though. The hours, the lack of a uniform, NOT being in a little hovel underground. So on and so forth... One final thing. I realize it's tedious for all of you to hear me beat this dead horse into even more death....but Mike. I'm hung up. I know I am. And I still feel myself attracted to the unobtainable. Can someone get me a psych major to tell me what the frack is wrong with me?? Plus side to all this? New Girl was free on iTunes last night!!! Snagged me a copy and cracked up apprpriately! "Jess is by far the best person I know. So if you guys let anything happen to her, I will come back here and crazy murder you." Posted via LiveJournal app for iPhone. |

| How do you know if you're doing it right? |
[Apr. 28th, 2011|10:22 pm] |
Okay, so Monday was my first yoga class and, as I am not usually one to go to such things, it took Amber having to ask me if I'd like to go to class with her. So I said yes because 1) it is widely known that gay men are attracted to yoga, so my Chances of meeting someone of a likewise sexual orientation are increased 2) I, myself, have thought bought joining in on one of the free classes offered at the gym; being gay myself I naturally thought yoga would be a fun choice and 3) I would have only agreed to go to the class if it was with a friend. Now, I'm sure we're all familiar with the horror stories. About how you'll he all sore and shot the next day, but low and behold come the next morning I am nothing if not feeling the same way I felt Monday morning. So this leads me to a choice between two options. "I am either more fit than I thought I was" or "I was doing it all wrong." As evidenced by the post's title, I feel that I was doing ALL of the stretches wrong cause hell if I knew what I was doing at all when I started going to the gym. Btw: totally right about the gay guys at the gym... Posted via LiveJournal app for iPhone. |

Easter Sunday. Normally a holiday I look forward to as it fills in that feast gap between last Thanksgiving and next Thanksgiving. Today, however, Easter is muddled by the fact that we're at another holiday where my mom was feeling exceptionally generous and sympathetic. What this means is that she in invited my dad to join us at church and the subsequent breakfast/lunch. Needless to say, awkward abounds. Posted via LiveJournal app for iPhone. |

| Spring Holiday |
[Apr. 22nd, 2011|07:42 am] |
Hooray for "spring holiday!" What is the "spring holiday" you ask? Well my little subscribed readers, it is the corporate world's way of saying "Happy Easter!" without actually saying it. So I guess really it's "Happy Politically Correct Holiday of Your Choosing!" Went to the gym at 6 this morning after dropping Ben off to work and it turns out there are just a many people there as there are after work... Go figure. When the gym is called 24 Hour Fitness, I should just expect there to be people at any hour. EDIT! Just watched Easy A with Emma Stone. That movie was ridiculously funny. The dialogue is well written and witty. Makes me wish I had been that clever in high school. XP Oh who am I kidding? I totally was... EDIT 2! We are apparently having a late lunch/early dinner with my dad...which neither Ben nor I are looking forward to. For one, Ben and I were supposed to go shopping for clothes today and that got cancelled for this dumb meal with an absentee father. Secondly, this whole thong stinks of last minute seasonal sympathy - which I'm normally all for except when it comes to my dad. Posted via LiveJournal app for iPhone. |

So a week later and life can only get better, right? My dad is okay, btw - he suffered from a mild panic attack, which he's never had before -...but the entire time I couldn't help but think "How should I be feeling?" I mean....I was worried and anxious to find out if he was okay...but I couldn't muster the all encompassing sorrow when I thought about what life would be like without him. Because...to be honest...I've been living life without him. It wasn't until I began to think about the GOOD things in my life that he was apart of. The few laughs we shared and the rare moments where we joked or got along or even talked. I may not have many fond memories of him, but for the few I do have, they reminded me that when the day comes that he passes on, I will have something to miss and cherish.
So enough of my downerism...because life wouldn't be life if it didn't have its ups and downs. I went to the beach with Stephen and the boys this past Saturday. Don't have any pictures to share, of course, because I didn't bring my camera, but we went to hang out with Stephen's friend Sarah and her boyfriend and her boyfriend's brother Nick. Who is quite the looker, might I say. We played Bocce Ball...which...okay, as far as games goes, isn't the funnest? But it was something to do to pass the time. The score was 5 - 10 in favor of Ryan and Nick (Sara's boyfriend and brother-in-friend?) And yes....I was keeping score cause I guess I AM kind of competitive...I mean...I certainly don't like losing... We were doing really well, too, until Sarah went off to play with the boys, leaving Stephen and me to play with the guys....which, I feel you should know, we would have won if Stephen weren't the Stephen of Bocce Ball. Was he the Tiger Woods of Bocce Ball, we might have won...far faster than we lost.
But as I said, life wouldn't be life if it didn't have its ups and downs... My mom was let go from her temp. job of 8 months on Sunday. That was...the epitome of suck. Now that she has her car and was doing incredibly well - enough for me to warrant a semi-possible dream of moving out and moving on. But now that she's lost her job, I can't help but feel like I will ALWAYS be living with my mother. Always supporting her. Which, okay, I guess I should be okay with because she's given a lot to raise Ben and me, but....I want to live on my own. To HAVE the experiences a person my age can have. I know I'll get over this resentment in a few days...but...for the moment, I feel like every step forward is just two more back. |

Hello Internets! Okay....so I realize it's Friday and the weekend doesn't "technically" start until midnight, but I figured, what the hey! I think I'll update on my week thus far...and see where the weekend takes me!
This week has been quite...interesting. Not sure if you know this, but I'm a "Stockroom/Warehouse Lead". This means I'm pretty much in charge of the stockroom at Philips (which is actually run by a company called Hagemeyer North America [side note: yeah...it's a funny name. Try spelling it over the phone XP] - the storeroom, not the company >.>) . It is my primary job to ensure that item locations are correct and that the quantity in our database system is correct. Needless to say, because we've had 5 different changes in management since I started, and the big screw up during physical inventory last year, there are quite a number of items whose shelf counts are off. Now, on top of "inventory management", which my new boss feels is a job all on its own, I have always been in charge of the storeroom's repairable items. Basically, I've got to jump through hoops with the Philips maintenance technicians and the Environmental Health and Safety department before I can send something out to be repaired. It's a time consuming process that requires paperwork, purchase orders and time on the phone with suppliers and vendors. And as if that weren't enough, I'm pretty much to go-to guy for anything and everything in stores. If there's something the customer is looking for, chances are I'll know what it is, where it is and if we even have any. I'm not infallible mind you, but I'm right pretty much all the time.
So what makes this job bearable? I feel needed. Appreciated. Yeah...kind of a lame excuse, but I do - deep down - like going to work. I mean, yes, sometimes it is a complete PAIN to drag myself out of bed, but in the end, I feel kind of fulfilled.
That being said...this week was interesting. I've kind of got a routine going, but my desk is a big old mess. I leave work for the next day all over the darn thing and boxes filled with parts that need to be sent out for repair just litter the underneath. So when I found out on Monday that we would be having not only our National Accounts Manager for all of our Philips sites (which isn't actually a big deal cause she visits us at least once a month), but we would have the West Coast Manager of Operations. I tried to have it cleaned up before Wednesday. I really did. Alas, once 5 rolls around, I seem to feel like I could care less whether one of them tripped over my many boxes and broke their neck...
No, that's not true. I'd probably care a lot. ALOT alot...but I sound more badass if I say I don't.
I digress.
On Monday I had a company called Priority Test come in to do some onsite calibration for test equipment that they use up on the second floor and LET ME TELL YOU. One of the technicians was a TOTAL cutie. A bit shorter than me (not that that would stop me...) but black hair/blue eyes...let that image sink in. Also...when I say his shirt was tight....it's because he's a little built under it. I suppose being the Marines does that people? Although I suppose that might also mean he's kind of straight. >.> But I can still dream. ^_^ Chris, btw. That's his name.
Tuesday was a funny day...I got a call pretty early in the day from this British dude...he was calling from a company that I had sent some electronic equipment to be repaired and I initially thought that he wanted to know whether I'd received them or not. Turns out he really just wanted me to do a survey. Heh....it's funny that an American company would outsource that kind of thing to the UK. I thought they outsourced it to Asia? It was funny only in that I felt totally embarrassed that I barely understood what he wanted because I was distracted by his accent. XP Tuesday afternoon was...while hectic as usual...actually brought a question to my face. Which hardly EVER happens anymore. I was passing from one end of the building to the other on the second floor - something I hardly do because I either need to see EHnS on one end or Purchasing on the other and never both at the same time of day. Tuesday, I actually needed to see both groups and as I was passing through the sea of cubicles, I was reading the names along the aisle. One of them was Veronica Martinez. Does anyone remember her? She was a girl I went to middle school with who later went to Tracy High. She disappeared (ran away/was kidnapped) during our freshman or sophomore year of high school. Her face was all over Tracy as a missing person and it always boggled my mind that something like that could have happened to someone I knew. Seeing that name literally made me stop to peer into the cubicles. I did not see her, or anyone actually....but....I'm still very curious to see if that is indeed her. Maybe one day...maybe Monday.
Skipping Wednesday cause nothing really happened, but Thrusday I was cornered (as was everyone else on the office staff) by the West Coast Operations Manager, Gordon Sturn. He asked me a couple of questions - which, surprisingly, I answered quite truthfully. Normally I spout some bullshit about how I'm going to school when I'm really not. I even let on to the fact that I don't really know if I want to end up running the damn storeroom and that sometimes I feel like maybe I could try my hand at writing. We talked for maybe 30 minutes before he left me to my work...and well...Today, my manager told me in confidence that Gordon found me the most impressive. While I'm terribly happy at the compliment (I actually swell with pride... XD) it makes me wonder whether I really am too good for my work and should move on...or stay and make a career out of business management.
Now...on a slightly different path...the cute neighbor boy across the way is having another party with his large group of friends. I know I'm beating a dead horse, but I get jealous when he has those parties. I came home late tonight because I worked out at the gym after work and it's supposed to make you feel good right? Damn neighbor boy had his blinds open and I could see them laughing and having a good time...and sitting alone in my car watching them have such a grand old ball made me feel....like an outsider. I don't like feeling like that.
Well...that was my week. How was yours? |

| Sometimes leaving the tv on while you sleep is a good thing... |

So my mom always falls asleep with the tv on and we let her because she tends to have crazy ass dreams where she yells in her sleep if she doesn't have some kind of noise in the background the moment sleep actually hits her. Last night she'd fallen asleep watching The Chappelle Show on Comedy Central and immediately following was Futurama - which I really like to watch. I stayed up for a few minutes to watch the episode and let sleep take me as well - because at that point I had already set the tv to sleep in 40 minutes. Good thing I had! About 20 minutes into it THIS came on!
Imagine my surprise when I found THAT beauty all over the tv screen. I was pretty much astounded because at first I didn't recognize it until the first few words came onto the screen. Then I was just blank. Absolutely blank until the scene where the giant ball of ice cracks open and the blue beam of light shoots into the sky. Then I was all over the remote to make it louder. I was completely taken aback because I literally track this movie every week. And I had heard NOTHING about this trailer. Imagine my utter surprise to see a new trailer floating about the cable channels that I had just not heard of. So of course I immediately went to the intarwebz to find any trace of this new trailer and lo and behold the movie site had been updated! Needless to say my mouth was agape and I felt giddy with pride and excitement. Despite the decision to cast white actors in clearly Inuit roles and a white boy to play the lead protagonist, I'm excited to see this movie and still pray that it will pull off all the important story pieces. So now...while I go geek out about one of my fandoms...please enjoy the trailer above and perhaps explore the revelry that is Avatar: The Last Airbender.

| Super Bowl XLIV (is that the right combination of roman numerals?)!! |
[Feb. 8th, 2010|08:53 pm] |
WOOOOOOOOO! Please take careful note of the 9 O's I placed in that. It's very emphasized that I was excited to watch the Super Bowl this year. If only because of two things.
1) Drew Brees is WAY hotter than Peyton Manning

2) The Last Airbender Super Bowl Spot! HELL YEAH, BEEYOTCHES!
So even though it was only like half a minute long, I was just excited to see SOMETHING about this movie. There are so many out there saying that this movie is gonna suck hardcore....but I'm still remaining hopeful...is that bad? I hope not. ^^ |

That's what it's called by the way, by the people who've been with the company long enough to remember that it was once called Hewlett Packard. Yes, even my parents worked there....at one point in the 80's anyway. It's a cool place, practically built with history. It's got a basketball court, a volleyball...whatever it's called, a soccer pitch and a track and workout stops...just like in parks. It even has showers...for both men and women. Which leads me right up to tonight's blog.
>START BLOG<
Now, there are two bathrooms I use the most...the one nearest the stockroom on the basement floor and the one near the employee parking on the first floor (which is on the other side of the building). Now, the hallways that lead to the bathroom are virtually the same - a ten foot walk and then doors on either side which lead to the women's and men's bathrooms. Now....I am accustomed to walking into the door on the left when using both bathrooms because that is which one it is. HOWEVER! Every other bathroom in the building is BACKWARDS! I know this for I have gone on a hunt....especially after yesterday. I was in a hurry to get back to the stockroom for an audit with a supplier whose material we keep on hand for them (using a special buy-on-demand program) when I needed to use the bathroom. The feeling to urinate was especially powerful when I got down to the basement floor from the employee parking side. Now there are bathrooms in the same spot on every floor...so when I normally would have gone through the door on the left when I was going into the bathroom, I did this for the bathrooms on the basement floor (nearest the parking) and was immediately assaulted by this hulking monstrosity the size of a large medicine cabinet. Of course I halted, but I'm not used to almost hitting a wall when walking through a similar door on the floor above and had to stare at the damn thing for a full minute before I realized what the hell an aspirin dispenser was doing in my way.
It was not an aspirin dispenser. For the few ladies that read this blog you will already know what I am referring to. A TAMPON dispenser. The hulking piece of metal was proffering cheaply made cotton sticks at me like some crazed flea market vendor. I backed away very quickly, went through the OTHER door and commenced releasing my hot stream of urine.

^_^ Hope this story helps you sleep tonight. |
